Description
The bridge was first built during the Japanese colonial period, though it exploded during the Korean War. It was restored in 1933, and was called the "Bridge of Patriotism" to commemorate the Battle of the Nakdong River. With the construction of the Waegwan Railway Bridge in 1941, the Bridge of Patriotism changed from a railway bridge to a footbridge. A musical fountain and a multi-purpose plaza have been newly established around the bridge, becoming a major landmark of Chilgok at night. Under the bridge, a peaceful musical fountain was created to pray for peace, freedom, and prosperity. It features a shape of an eye around the Taegeuk pattern in the center, and symbolizes the battle for the Nakdong River defense line that lasted for 55 days during the Korean War. The 62.5-m long fountain was designed with a maximum spray height of 55 m.
